Leadership and Management Skills

A coalition of the UK's most senior businessmen and union leaders recently took the unprecedented step of calling on UK employers not to slash staff training in a bid to cut costs as the economic downturn bites.

Some of the UK's top business leaders urged employers to sustain or even increase their investment in training, saying:

'Now is precisely the time to keep investing in the skills and talents of our people. It is the people we employ who will get us through. When markets are shrinking and order books falling, it is their commitment, productivity and ability to add value that will keep us competitive. Investing now in building new skills will put us in the strongest position as the economy recovers”

We are in a time when effective leadership and management really should come to the fore. When times are good, managing staff can be an awful lot easier than when things are tough. In testing times, difficult decisions often need to be made. Managers need to be skilled and know how to handle people effectively and keep their staff onside when making those tough decisions. We have helped to improve management and leadership skills in many types of organisation, addressing such issues as:

  • What are leadership and management – what’s the difference?
  • Managing and tackling poor performance
  • Team leading and how to get the best from a team
  • Delegating, why it is necessary and why it can be difficult
  • How to communicate, what to communicate, and why it goes wrong
  • How to manage change and overcome resistance
  • Self-awareness - how am I perceived and how does this impact on my managerial role?
  • Coaching and development of others
  • Time management and how to get even more from your working day
  • How assertive managers behave
  • How to chair, prepare and participate in effective meetings
  • How to prevent conflict and how to deal with it when it occurs

Whether for a group of new or existing managers, of any ability or responsibility level, we can design and deliver a course that is centred on your exact requirements and based upon delegates’ specific training needs. Training can be conducted at your premises or offsite at a hotel or training centre – the choice is yours.

Training courses typically run for between one and five days, although longer programmes have been designed and successfully facilitated

Tell us what you want to achieve and we will provide you with a comprehensive proposal along with the costs.

Every manager who attends a course will receive free unlimited amounts of email and telephone support from their course facilitator for up to six months after their course attendance. This means they can get advice and tips on how to implement what they have learned back in the workplace.

Argos, Clipper Tea, Interhealth, PD Hook and over 50 other companies both large and small have benefited from leadership and management training programmes designed and facilitated by us. Take a look at our case studies page to find out how improving leadership and management skills have led to significant benefits to business.
